First 379 AEW/CAOC CGOC event
The first major event held by the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing and Combined Air Operations Center Company Grade Officers' Council (379 AEW/CAOC CGOC) was a smashing success. Over 50 CGOs took time out of their busy schedules to come down to the base's Desert Eagle Lounge and help kick-off the AEF 7-8 rotation. Music, free subs and snacks, as well as discounted drink prices ere provided to the attendees courtesy of the CGOC. Also present were most of the 379th Wing, Group and Squadron leaders, and Brigadier General Charles W. Lyon, the 379 Air Expeditionary Wing Commander.
CGOs take professional organization to the desert
by Capt. Teresa Sullivan
Chief, Public Affairs
379th Air Expeditionary Wing
379th Air Expeditionary Wing captains and lieutenants continue their pursuit of professional development while in the desert through volunteerism, organizing events and building relationships.
Listed on the Air Force Company Grade Officers' Council Web site as the only official deployed council, this group is not typical, said 1st Lt. Walton Dabney, 379th Expeditionary Aircraft Maintenance Squadron section commander. He was recently selected as the division chief for forward deployed CGOCs, a job which will entail developing the organization at other locations in theater.
BLESMA, Run/Swim marathon
5 July 2007
The 379 AEW/CAOC CGOC continues to participate actively in base events in our small part of Southwest Asia. On 19 June, they collaborated with the 901 EAW British RAF officers to facilitate the British Limbless Ex Service Men's Association (BLESMA) Half-marathon. The very next week the CGOC was visible again in the 379 ESVS Sponsored Walk/Swim biathlon. 23 Company Grade Officers volunteered to register participants, oversee lap counting, and marshal runners for the two events. Over 30 CGOs contributed their personal time and funds to run the Five-Kilometer BLESMA and/or the Services biathlon. Captain Charissa Delion of the 340 EARS remarked, "The Biathlon was a fun way to get spend some off-duty hours and exercise competitively. I met a bunch of CGOs that I never would have interacted with otherwise." Coalition partners from Australia and Singapore also participated in these truly international events. The BLESMA rose over $3000 dollars for our Allies' veterans. The positive image set by the 379 AEW/CAOC CGOC served to strengthen international friendships, garner new members for the council, and further build the CGOCs reputation here at the Undisclosed Location.
